September 5 - November 17, 2013

Marcia Burtt Studio presents the first solo exhibition of her paintings since 2008.

The exhibition spans two venues — the familiar studio space on lower Laguna Street which has functioned as a gallery since 2000, and a new uptown location in Santa Barbara Frame Shop in Arlington Plaza, across the street from the Arlington Theatre.

The new uptown location, 1324 State Street, Suite J, will host a reception September 5 from 5:00 to 8:00 during First Thursday festivities.

Burtt’s recent work revisits many of the places she has been most visually obsessed with in the last decades, including Goleta Beach, Butterfly Beach, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, the Cambria coastline, and her home ranch in southern San Luis Obispo County.

Burtt uses clean, precise color, creating a sense of immediacy that opens a window to the time and place of the painting. Her refreshing “less is more” approach to brushwork results in paintings that are not sentimental or trivialized; they are records of nature that allow the grandeur or intimacy of the setting to dominate the composition and the viewer’s memory and imagination fill in the details.
